Almondbury High School and Language College is a community school located in the centre of its local community. There has been major capital investment into the school’s facilities over the last few years to provide a high quality learning environment for students. We have also developed a new Sports Centre, a new set of tennis courts and our ICT facilities have improved beyond recognition! All of these developments underline our ambition in the school to develop the very best education possible for our children.
While these are the most obvious developments, underlying them is our central aim to provide the best possible teaching and learning experience for students across the school. We believe that all students can achieve and staff provide a high quality of lessons based on the most up to date training and developments offered to them.
Detailed description:
We were delighted to be awarded a School Achievement Award by the government for the quality of our examination results in 2002 and have continued to build on these.
I believe that developing in our students those attitudes and attributes that make them successful learners is key to this process. Central to this are the excellent relationships that exist between students and teachers. It is the care and support that our staff work so hard to provide that creates the framework for our students to grow personally, socially and morally, as well as academically.
Underpinning the work of our teaching staff and our students is the support of the whole community and our parents in particular. We are a school that has opened its facilities to local people and at the moment we have over 1900 people a week using our ‘school’, the highest ever. Similarly we have always prided ourselves on our close relationship with our parents and this crucial area of school life is central to our efforts to further improve. We belong to a pyramid of school and work closely with all our junior and infant schools in a close and supportive relationship.
Finally we are an ‘open school’ where everyone is welcome to come in at any time to see a thoroughly modern comprehensive school, that is determined to continue to develop the quality of the education it offers to the local children. I am confident that if you come to see us you will be impressed by our facilities, but above all by the caring relationships, the quality of work, the pupils attitude to learning and the sense of purpose in the school.
Almondbury High School has a team of dedicated eco warriors who are working extremely hard to make the school more sustainable and environmently friendly.
