Description

Leading bed mattress furniture retailer working with manufacturers including Millbrook Beds, Sealy, Slumberland, Rest Assured Wade Upholstery

Company description
Our family’s devotion to the furniture industry began in the late 1800’s and has periodically evolved throughout the 20th and into the 21st Century, along with our consistent and knowledgeable service we strive to give to our customers.

Allen and Appleyard Ltd was first founded in 1879 by Ray & Miles apprentices who, 21 years later, opened up a purpose built building on Renshaw Street in Liverpool; a premises formerly owned by the railway company. Through the early 1900’s Allen & Appleyard Ltd became a reputable furniture trade name in Liverpool, and survived the 1950’s when trade suffered immensely after the wartime efforts.

The year of 1972 instigated an important milestone for Allen & Appleyard Ltd, as the company moved away from it’s Liverpudlian roots and opened it’s doors to the public of Knutsford in a renowned historic landmark, known as “The Old Town Hall”.

I will never ever buy anything from this company again. I purchased a Stuart Jones chair on the 17th August this year. Delivery was expected in approx five weeks. When it got to the five week mark I telephoned to enquire about delivery. I was told it had been sent to the courier company and I should expect a call shortly. After another week had passed by I called Appleyards again to be told not only was the chair not at the courier company, it was going to be another four weeks due to a fabric delay. I was astonished, not so much by the fabric delay, but by the lies I had been told, and the fact I had done all the telephoning, Appleyards had not called me once to apologise or update me. After another four weeks I called to seek a delivery date, yet again to be told the chair wasn't even made, let alone ready for delivery. Given that I had already made my feeling clear about Appleyards customer service skills you would have thought they would have had the decency to call me and let me know. I listened to all sorts of excuses from Appleyards , and the reasons they were not prepared to offer a discount , the sob story that they were a small family company and giving me a discount would affect them as a business, but still no delivery date. When I called another week later I was told that they had sent me an e-mail explaining my chair would be with the couriers on 28th October. I never received that e-mail despite their assurances it was sent. I must say the courier firm they use is excellent and delivered it within 48 hours on the date and at the time they said they would, if only Appleyards could behave so professionally!
