Short profile:
We're two Church of England churches serving one geographical parish, running along Councillor Lane.
We are a diverse group of ordinary people from the local area, but the BIG thing we have in common is the belief that the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ is the best news in the world, and the Bible relevant for life today.
Follow the Who are we? link above to find out more about what we believe.
As for what we do… our Mission Statement summarises best our priorities:
"To glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ"
The Bible tells us that God's supreme concern is His Glory; that He demands that His reputation (Name) be honoured – this is not arrogant egocentrism on His part but simply His receiving His due as the sovereign creator of all.
Detailed description:
One of the ways we do this is by presenting Jesus to people in as clear and attractive and honest a way as possible. We are convinced that when men and women understand who Jesus truly is they will want to follow him and obey his commands; to be disciples.
Although All Hallows & St Philip's are two churches within one parish, we are united in our convictions that stem from our heritage:
We are Anglican churches, part of the Church of England. We are delighted to subscribe to the historic creeds and formularies and the 39 Articles of the Church of England.
We have an Evangelical tradition. This means we believe that the Bible is God's word written and therefore our authority on all matters of faith and to be obeyed as we live out our Christian lives.
We believe that man's greatest need is to hear that Jesus Christ died for sins, bringing us forgiveness and the hope of eternal life.
