Back in 1981 my parents Nick & Joan Hardingham decided they wanted to get out of the 'rat race' and run a small-holding whilst raising a family. They bought the then derelict Alder Carr Farm near Needham Market and set about what was to be many years of hard, but enjoyable, work.
Detailed description:
In 1985 a bumper crop of raspberries led to Nick trying out an old family recipe. They began by selling through their own farm shop, and were soon asked to supply other outlets.
The simple combination proved such a success they have never looked back. The range has increased to include 12 core flavours with over a dozen further flavours offered on a limited edition basis over the years all made using English fruits - everything from quince to pumpkin!
Production soon grew out of the family kitchen and for several years they used the kitchen of the tearoom which they also ran on-site. In 1996 it was time to grow again and a dedicated kitchen was built and then extended in 2003.
In 2004 I joined to run the fruit cream ice business full time and in 2007 Alder Tree Ltd was born. Now run entirely by myself and my partner Graham Sayell we hope to continue growing the business whilst remaining true to our original ideals - using simple, natural, local ingredients to make delicious products.
