Short profile:
Africa Advocacy Foundation (AAF ) was established in 1996 with the aim of empowering and improving the welfare of marginalised and disadvantaged African communities. Through a number of community initiatives, we support individuals and families to overcome poverty, ill health and disadvantage and help maximise their life opportunities.
Detailed description:
We promote access and participation in the uptake and delivery of health, education and other social welfare services through the provision of resources, information, advice, training and support.
We aim to help communities build sustainable livelihoods by supporting self-help initiatives and campaigns, providing resources, advice, training and fundraising for community projects as well as sharing good practice with other agencies.
African Elderly Project
The project aims to reduce isolation among African elderly people through organized group walks, healthy eating days and social evenings including music and dance sessions. We organize interactive community workshops with health related themes enabling participants to share experiences and learn new things.
Young Carers Programme
Supports young carers from African families affected by HIV. Activities include music and drama sessions, outreach and befriending, family shopping days, outings, homework support, advice and counselling and offering breaks from caring roles.
