Short profile:
Afasic is the UK charity established in 1968 as a parent led organisation representing children and young people with specific language impairment (SLI) and speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) by raising awareness of this often hidden disability thus working for their inclusion in society and supporting their parents and carers. Afasic Cymru is not a service provider; therefore we can offer balanced impartial information. We provide information and training for parents – and professionals – and produce a range of publications. It works in partnership with local and national government, professional and statutory bodies and other voluntary organisations Members meet in local groups in both North and South Wales.
Detailed description:
Afasic Cymru was established in Wales in 2002, in response to devolution and thanks to some funding from the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG); the Waterloo Foundation and more recently The Big Lottery Fund we are working from two regions. Jeannette Carr, Director is based in Cardiff together with our part time administrator, Lorraine Mulvaney and Yvonne Brookes the Development Officer who is based in North Wales. In the current economic climate we are constantly seeking funding sources for us to continue our work in Wales, we would therefore be grateful if you could contact us if you know of any such opportunities or if your employer is looking to sponsor a charity of the month or year. All donations are gratefully received and used in Wales.
