Detailed description:

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is one of the great herbal systems of the world, with an unbroken tradition going back to the 3rd century BC. The underlying basis of TCM is yin and yang. In Chinese medicine, all organisms have both yin and yang qualities and a balance of the two are necessary for good health. In general, yin energy is associated with cold, female energy, and represents the solid organs. Yang is associated with hot, male energy, and represents the hollow organs. Yin and Yang are in constant motion, creating a fluctuating balance in the healthy body. Disease results when either yin or yang is in a state of prolonged excess or deficiency.

TCM practitioner asks many detailed questions that will help them to know the nature of patient's imbalances. They may ask about the person's occupation, stress associated with it, what they like to eat, what physical problems they are experiencing, etc, and give a diagnosis depending on them. In TCM theory, treatment is only part of keeping you healthy. The other important part is your healthy diet and healthy lifestyle. Acupuncture is a holistic approach to health based on over 2, 000 years of development and refinement in China . The tradition is as much about the maintenance of health as the management of disease.

Although sometimes described merely as a means of pain relief, traditional acupuncture is actually used to treat people with a wide range of illnesses. Its focus is on improving the overall wellbeing of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms. The ancient Chinese believed that there is a universal life energy called Chi or Qi present in every living creature. Qi moves in a smooth and balanced way through a series of meridians (channels) beneath the skin. As long as this energy flows freely throughout the meridians, health is maintained, but once the flow of energy is blocked, the system is disrupted and pain and illness occur.
