Detailed description:
This programme grew in the first instance out of a desire to help dyslexics understand basic number concepts and the significance of place value. As trained teachers of dyslexics and as two of the co-authors of the Beat Dyslexia Activity Packs, Celia Stone and Myra Nicholson have 50 years of experience between them and they have become recognised as authorities in their field. "We appreciate the significance of highly structured multi-sensory teaching as a basic requirement for concept building. We are also aware that many of the dyslexics that we have taught have struggled with mathematics".
According to Brian Butterworth, a professor of neuropsychology at University College London, 40% of dyslexics have dyscalculia. ‘You can see the numbers but you don't know what they mean. Your brain simply has no concept of 'threeness' or 'fourness'.
The studies suggest that the problem affects about 6.5% of the population.’ We at Addacus are passionate about making learning easier and more fun; getting rid of the fear of learning and seeing pupils succeed.
