Short profile:

Active life Podiatry is one of the London's most up-to-date podiatric centres for foot-related injuries and abnormalities. The practice was established in 1988 and covers a wide range of foot and lower leg treatments and sports injuries, including routine care, acupuncture, minor foot surgery, steroid injections and the supply of oral antibiotics. We offer a comprehensive diagnostic service including a full biomechanical and computerised gait analysis.

We stock a range of ready-made insoles and undertake the prescription and manufacture of state-of-the-art custom-made orthoses. All our podiatrists are state registered, have a minimum of four years post graduate experience and are members of the Health Professions Council, (HPC).

The HPC is a regulatory body for health professions. We keep our skills and knowledge up to date by regularly attending conferences and courses.

Detailed description:

Active Life Podiatry is one of the London's most up-to-date centres for the treatment of foot-related injuries and abnormalities. We provide: Routine care including nail cutting, removal of thick skin under the feet and around the heel and a general check for foot and lower leg heal . Minor foot surgery for in-growing and infected toe nails, nail thickening, corns, and verrucas. Injections of cortico-steroids which have powerful anti-inflammatory and painkilling actions. Treat infections like athletes foot, verrucas, warts. Mobilisation techniques can improve motion within the foot reducing pain and improving performance. Biomechanics & Orthoses (orthotics) for gait analysis, bespoke temporary or permanent insoles to balance gait and reduce misalignments in order to enhance sports performance and speed recuperation from injury.

Supply of oral antibiotics for foot-related bacterial infections. Acupuncture or dry needling for pain control and accelerated healing and relief of muscle tightness. Acupuncture is a safe and proven procedure using very fine needles inserted into the body at precise points for a variety of therapeutic purposes. There are two forms: Traditional Chinese and Modern Western. At Active Life Podiatry, we use the Modern Western approach, also known as ‘Dry Needling’ based on modern understanding of anatomy, physiology and pathology. The filiform needles are inserted into ‘trigger points’ that are found in muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints.

There are two kinds of trigger points: active and latent. Active trigger points are painful to the touch and are caused by infection, trauma, injury, tension or exposure to cold. Active trigger points, which can form in any part of the body, are often linked some distance from the area of pain. For example, an active trigger point in the calf can refer pain in the heel. This is often confused with plantar fasciitis.
