Short profile:

Sports Injury refers to the kinds of injuries that occur during sports or exercise. Some sports injuries result from accidents; others are due to poor training practices, improper equipment or footwear, lack of conditioning, poor nutrition, insufficient warm up and stretching or mal alignment (incorrect biomechanics).

Detailed description:

Management of injuries is directed towards repair and recovery as well as the factors which may prevent recurrence of the injury. This will often include addressing incorrect foot and lower limb biomechanics and it is not unusual for even small mal alignments to be the underlying cause of a problem. Some injuries may require a short-term course of pain relief, accompanied by a programme of functional restoration with physiotherapy. For other injuries it may be useful to perform local injections, for example injections of local anaesthetic and anti-inflammatories in Tennis Elbow
