We influenced the three national screening programmes for breast, bowel and cervical cancer, which save thousands of lives each year. And we were instrumental in bringing in smokefree law in England, which has helped more smokers to quit than ever before and will help prevent an estimated 40, 000 deaths by 2018.

Cancer Research UK currently supports over 4, 500 scientists, doctors and nurses throughout the UK through a variety of funding mechanisms. We fund research carried out in our own research institutes, as well as awarding grants to researchers based in universities and hospitals. We are also in the process of establishing Cancer Research UK centres across the country.
