We were set up over 35 years ago and have grown to become the oldest and largest victims' organisation in the world. Every year, we contact over 1.5 million people after a crime to offer our help. We depend on thousands of specially-trained volunteers to deliver our services and although we work closely with the police and other parts of the criminal justice system, we are an independent charity. We have offices across England and Wales and we run the Witness Service in every court. We also run the national Victim Supportline. Most of the help we give is provided by specially-trained volunteers. Many of our volunteers have first-hand experience as a victim or witness. Every day the police send us information about people who've been victims of crime. When we get your details we'll try and contact you by phone. If we can't get hold of you on the phone we'll follow up with a letter.
