St Nicholas is a Primary Special School catering for children aged 4 – 11 years with Moderate Learning Difficulties, Speech and Communication Disorders and Autism. The school has a maximum roll of 118 pupils. Children may be admitted from the age of 4 years. Children may be admitted up to the age of 10 years if places are available. The school currently has 13 classrooms and pupils are grouped in relatively small classes. Research Autism is the only UK charity exclusively dedicated to research into interventions in autism. Established in 2003 as the Autism Intervention Research Trust, we carry out high quality, independent research into new and existing health, education, social and other interventions. Our goal is the improvement of quality of life and outlook for the individuals affected and those around them. We have the active support of some of the world’s leading figures in autism and research. They have given freely of their time and expertise to work with us. We also work closely with our research sponsor, the Autism Research Centre at the University of Cambridge, as well as with the National Autistic Society. As far as possible, we also try to work with individuals on the autism spectrum, carers, service providers and policy makers to make sure that our research addresses real issues and that it makes a significant difference to people’s lives.

TITA is now fundraising for the new studio build at the Hoffmann Foundation for Autism, Daycentre in Wood Green, London N22., (‘Daycentre’). Money raised to date has greatly enhanced the experiences users have there. We propose to: Evaluate existing models of supported housing for home/care leavers; Establish a capital investment fund to support the provision of dedicated accommodation for people with ASD; Articulate an agreed policy with Local Authority’s Housing Departments and Social Services Directorates and with the Learning & Skills Council which will allow them to develop supported living specifically for autistic people where they are not ready for independent living.
