Our work is overseen by the Board of Trustees, many of whom have personal experience of mental illness, either as someone who has a diagnosis or as a family members and carer. A lot of our work is funded by health authorities, who pay us to provide high quality services across England. We also raise money for special projects and campaigns by applying to trusts and other grant-making bodies and asking people to donate to us.

Today, with around 10, 000 members, we remain determined that this voice will be heard. We help over 52, 000 people every year through our services, support groups, providing information and advice and campaigning for change. We were founded almost 40 years ago to give a voice to people affected by mental illness, their families, carers and friends. We offer advice and information, support and understanding, help and hope.
We campaign for change to policy and practice at both national and local level so that things improve for people affected by mental illness. We have hundreds of campaign activists - people who have real experience of mental illness, who campaign together with us. We encourage people to get involved in our campaigns. We have a national advice and information service, providing a telephone advice line and hundreds of free, accredited information resources ranging from information about diagnosis…
