Acupuncture works to help maintain your body’s equilibrium. It involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to regulate the flow of ‘qi’, your body’s vital energy. For a number of lifestyle and environmental reasons, your energy can become disturbed, depleted or blocked, which can result in some symptoms of pain and illness. Traditional acupuncture, which in China and other far eastern cultures still features in mainstream healthcare, both as a stand-alone therapy and in combination with western medicine, can sometimes be an effective therapy to help restore balance and promote physical and emotional harmony.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a healthcare system based on ancient principles which goes back over two thousand years and looks at pain and illness as signs that the body is out of balance. The aim of acupuncture treatment is to restore the body's equilibrium thus restoring the balance and promoting well being. What makes this system so uniquely suited to modern life is that physical and emotional symptoms are seen as interdependent that both need to be taken into account when diagnosing and treating a patient. This means that acupuncture is a complete holistic approach to healthcare.
Many people come to acupuncture for help with specific symptoms or conditions. These might include: anxiety states, arthritis, asthma, back pain, circulatory problems, depression, facial paralysis, fibrocytis, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, high blood pressure, indeterminate aches and pains, infertility, menstrual problems, migraines, sciatica, skin conditions or ulcers. Acupuncture is also helpful for people trying to give up smoking, alcohol, drugs or overeating.
At RPSAC we pride ourselves on maintaining the highest levels of professionalism and clinical excellence, using the latest theoretical, practical and technological treatments. We also ensure that our approach is entirely patient centered, and offer a warm, friendly and personal approach tailored to suit any individual's therapy needs. Our aim is to restore an individual to a pain free, fully functional and optimal state of health in as little time as possible.
What will happen when you come for a consultation? Your first visit will last for an hour and will start with a detailed discussion of your symptoms and needs. There may also be some simple physical examinations to determine which treatment method is appropriate for you. On the first appointment we will agree a treatment plan, including the number and frequency of treatments that you will require. We can also discuss lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise that may benefit your healing. These can be combined with your treatment and can also help to prevent further health problems. At the start of each appointment we will evaluate the progress of the treatments so far. All consultations are completely confidential.

We use acupuncture, herbal medicine and Chinese medicine to assist various conditions, including fertility issues, IVF support, back pain, insomnia, stress and a wide range of other complaints. An in-depth consultation takes place that investigates your current symptoms together with your more general physical and emotional condition. We will take your pulse at both wrists and look at your tongue. From this information we can form a diagnosis and plan of action. Sessions generally involve acupuncture, whereby ultrafine needles are inserted at special locations around the body. The acupuncture points are not always close to the part of the body where you experience a problem, for example, if you suffer from headaches, needles may be inserted in your arms or legs.
